  • (1888PressRelease) June 15, 2012 - Cincinnati, Ohio -- IGEL Technology, a leading manufacturer of thin client hardware and software solutions, demonstrated its first Microsoft RemoteFX-certified system-on-chip (SoC) thin client this week at the Microsoft TechEd North America conference in Orlando, Florida.

The IGEL multiprotocol SoC thin client is the first to be certified by Microsoft to give users the full benefits of its multimedia RemoteFX technology. Notable for its small size, low power consumption and exceptional multimedia performance, the IGEL device is expected to come to market by the end of Summer 2012.

Already proven in mobile and embedded applications, such as smart phones and tablet computers, ARMŽ technology will now be used in IGEL thin clients. The integrated Digital Signal Processor (DSP) from Texas Instruments accelerates the processing of protocols, such as Microsoft RemoteFX, and gives the new SoC device a level of multimedia performance comparable to that of the top models available in the thin client sector. The device's many features include the ability to play full-screen HD videos, as well as render complex graphical content such as Windows Aero effects and PowerPoint presentations.

In keeping with IGEL's Universal Desktop strategy to offer devices capable of connecting to all server-based computing environments, the new SoC thin client is not limited to any one specific desktop virtualization solution. It not only supports the Microsoft RemoteFX protocol but also Citrix ICA with HDX. Other standards will also be integrated as they become available.

"For IGEL customers, this means getting better performance for lower acquisition and operating costs as well as safeguarding their investment," stated Jeff Kalberg, General Manager at IGEL Technology America. "With this technology, we're now expanding the IGEL Universal Desktop operating model by offering yet another thin client with an operating system that can be updated and that can be fully managed remotely with the included IGEL Universal Management Suite."

"The result of our latest R&D work shows that IGEL is, as is so often the case, a step ahead of the competition," adds Kalberg. "What's more, the excellent cost-benefit ratio and energy-efficient device combines many of today's latest technologies."
