  • (1888PressRelease) September 22, 2010 - Leading the way for sustainable business, Ibstock has become the first UK brick manufacturer to be awarded the 'very good' rating in its recent factory assessment for the responsible sourcing standard, BES 6001.

The BES 6001 standard for responsible sourcing demonstrates that a building material has been produced in a way that has minimised its environmental impact, and it is sustainable. Ibstock was awarded the important standard at its Dorket Head factory in Nottingham.

John Richards, Sales and Marketing Director at Ibstock, commented: "Ibstock has always been at the forefront when it comes to sustainable development and the environment, and as well as being the first brickmaker to achieve the environmental management standard BS EN 14001, we were also the first to publish an annual Environmental Report, which is now in its 10th year.

"As part of this drive we are extremely committed to responsible sourcing and I am very happy to say that on the 1st July, we achieved the 'very good' rating in the BES 6001 standard, better than any other brickmaker in the UK.

"As part of our ongoing dedication we have put together our ten tenants of responsible sourcing. Covering elements such as employee engagement, investment in efficient manufacturing and recycling of process materials, these commandments will ensure that Ibstock remains ahead of the curve when it comes to responsible sourcing and sustainable development."
