The course site is the former Hurricane Island Outward Bound School and the origins of Wilderness Medical Associates International. The Island is now a training and research facility run by The Hurricane Island Foundation and a near-perfect wilderness and marine medical training site.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. This WFR course will be led by WMA International's Curriculum Director, Jeffrey Isaac, PA-C. Jeff has co-authored Wilderness and Rescue Medicine and The Outward Bound Wilderness First Aid Handbook. WMA International trains over 8,000 students annually and has instructed courses on all seven continents. The organization is compromised of hundreds of instructors with medical expertise balanced with a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to first class education. WMA International offers this specialized training because they understand the need. Recreationally and professionally, there is a large audience that faces unique medical risks.
