  • Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY (1888PressRelease) September 22, 2012 - On Sunday, October 7 - a holiday weekend when many people will be traveling to the area to enjoy the beginning festivities of fall - hundreds of families will descend upon the Saratoga Spa State Park to take part in Angel Names Association's (ANA) annual "Forever in Our Hearts" Memorial Walk. This free family event has, for the last two years, drawn nearly 500 people from New York and nearby states, and provides a supportive and uplifting environment for families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.

Angel Names Association, founded in May of 2000 in Saratoga Springs, helps families across the U.S. after they suffer the tragedy of stillbirth, and provides supportive programs like the annual Memorial Walk for families who have lost a child at any age. Registration begins at noon; the walk commences at 1:15 p.m. and will be followed by a nondenominational memorial and flower ceremony. The day will include children's activities and light refreshments.

"Our goal is to increase awareness, and to provide an experience that families can enjoy and look forward to, and feel supported as they walk in remembrance of a beloved child," said Michelle Mosca, ANA Cofounder and President. Indeed, families tend to return each year, often bringing more family and friends with them. "They schedule their October plans around the walk, and look forward to this event," said Mosca.

Although participants share the common and painful experience of pregnancy loss and infant death, and attend the walk in memory of a child who has died, it is an enjoyable day of remembrance. People attend the walk from weeks to decades after having lost a child. "Some of the participants experienced miscarriage and stillbirth at a time when pregnancy loss was not openly discussed - 30 or more years ago," noted Mosca. It is bittersweet - to know they have waited so long to hear the name(s) spoken aloud, and to see the impact of that simple gesture as the baby's name is announced," said Mosca.

Memorial Walk corporate sponsors include ificlick design, The Adirondack Trust Company, Balet Flowers & Design, Chelsea Piers, Corinth Merchants Association, Dani{Elle} Photography, Forever Heart Publishing, , Dr. William Lyons & Adirondack Endodontics, National Quarry Services, Ashley Rosenbrock Photography, Sentron Associates, Kendra Schieber, Stampin' Up, Michael and Linda Toohey, and Walt Disney World.
