  • Madera, CA (1888PressRelease) July 20, 2019 - The Mariposa County Unified School District held the “We Are MCUSD” Back to School event Friday Morning at Mariposa County High School. The event was organized as a way of building up both spirit and excitement towards the upcoming school year. Those in attendance also gained valuable insight for the year ahead.

The school district superintendent Robin Hopper shared her passion and thoughts on leadership, serving students, and doing a complete job in her jurisdiction. “We are preparing learners to go out into the world,” Hopper said as she emphasized the district’s mission and vision.

“Our mandate is to help students become responsible, productive, and competitive in a global society,” she added. The district works to ensure that students are well equipped with the right skills and tools to succeed in life.

The school event saw stakeholders discuss how learners should become well-rounded by ensuring that they are guided to find information, to read, write, and compute, among other things. “Our students need to be competitive, have people skills to prosper in a global society,” Hopper said as she addressed the crowd.

It was agreed that all students needed to be empowered, given the same platform to achieve enriching learning opportunities so that they, in turn, can realize their full potential. It was unanimously recognized that equipping students with the necessary skills helps them become responsible and productive members of society.

“We enrich students with learning opportunities so that upon realizing their potential they can give back,” Superintendent Hopper said. She added, “with proper skills, children go on to become food producers, future pilots, members of the media, and do well in other important careers, some of which have yet to be created.”

Officials set time aside for the introduction of new teachers across the district after Superintendent Hopper delivered her address. They also dedicated time to grant employees with awards to recognize their hard work serving the district for years. Awards were given to distinguished members that had served for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years respectively.

The event’s keynote speaker Matt Jones took to the stage after a short intermission. The cancer survivor defeated the deadly disease twice by going through several surgeries and bone marrow transplants. He spoke about how his experience with cancer taught him a great deal.

“Out of your mess comes your message; out of your test comes your testimony,” Jones quipped as he shared his heartfelt message and encouraged the district members to visualize victory, take action, and elevate their attitude. “I’m so impressed by his message and purpose,” Hopper said after Jones concluded his presentation. Later teachers formed smaller groups and spent the rest of the afternoon with their faculty members to prepare for the commencement of the school year.
