Honoring the Winners in the Industry University Linkage Competition

  • (1888PressRelease) March 31, 2014 - This came on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of Queen Rania ‎National Entrepreneurship Competition, where Amman Chamber of ‎Industry, Industry Research and development Fund, The Jordan Oil Shale Company (JOSCO), Applied Scientific Research Fund (ASRF) and Dar Al Dawa Veterinary and ‎Agricultural Industries, were honored for their support of the competition ‎which aims to encourage Jordanian university students to employ their ‎technical skills and harness them to solve the challenges faced by the Jordanian industrial ‎sector and help them in developing new products. ‎ ‎

    "The past years have proven the ability and versatility of our ‎university students to come up with new ideas and useful solutions that ‎can help the various industrial sectors, if they ‎are provided with the right environment and technical support. This ‎competition has also helped some companies to discover and attract young ‎Jordanian talents. This comes through the chamber's tireless efforts to ‎support the competitiveness of the Jordanian industry through the focus ‎on research and development and linkages with universities" said Mr. ‎Ziad Humsi the chairman of the Amman Chamber of Industry.‎

    Commenting on Industrial R & D Fund (IRDF) which is affiliated to the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) for the contribution and support, the Secretary General ‎of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Dr. Khalid Shrydeh ‎said: "Our participation in this competition lies within our desire to open new ‎channels of interaction between academic and industrial sectors and to ‎support the synergies and integration in a practical way that contributes ‎to the development of the sector and increase of their production. Through our ‎participation we seek to create and activate pivotal link between the ‎academic and industrial sectors, hoping that this might be a different ‎approach to encourage scientific research and development in Jordan".

    For his part, Basil Biltaji, The Communication Manager of the Jordan Oil Shale Company (JOSCO) ‎said: "Promoting research and development in Jordan is an important factor to push forward Human Capital Development among Jordanians in various sectors. This initiative strengthens capacities of students' to think creatively for solutions, rewards innovative students and helps establish relationships between academia, public and private institutions altogether. JOSCO is keen to support university research and innovation through its Social Investment Projects and believes in empowering Jordanian students to utilize sustainable approaches to be innovative and competitive in the world arena. JOSCO hopes to see similar initiatives implemented in Jordan that creates an award winning culture of researchers for all Jordanians".

    Remarkably, a number of Jordanian companies had introduced several technical ‎challenges before the participating students in the first round of the ‎competition. The Jordan Oil Shale Company (JOSCO), ASRF and ‎Dar Al Dawa Veterinary and Agricultural Industries have presented 6 ‎challenges that covered various engineering and scientific disciplines. ‎ In total, 43 teams participated from 12 Universities.

    QRCE was established in 2004 to help develop technology entrepreneurship in Jordan. The Centre is part of an innovation ecosystem which includes The Royal Scientific Society, The Princess Sumaya University for Technology, and is an integral part of iPARK, playing the role of a national Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship. As part of QRCE strategic plan, the Center is implementing a national initiative supported by the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), Intel Corporation and Arab Potash Company, focusing on networking, recognition & awareness, capacity building and support in various governorates.
