  • (1888PressRelease) October 16, 2013 - BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS - High demand for Libman Education's online ICD-10 readiness course Anatomy & Physiology for Coders continues, as the course is increasingly used for training everything from individual scribes and medical coders to entire coding departments of major hospital systems and physician groups.

The course, which prepares scribes and coders for the anatomy-intensive requirements of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, provides students with a comprehensive and complete review of major body systems. Anatomy & Physiology for Coders is distinguished both by a concise format that allows students to grasp its content in minimal time, as well as by engaging videos and interactive educational games.

"As time goes on, more and more organizations are using Anatomy & Physiology for Coders to train their scribes and coding departments," said Susan Pepple, vice president of Libman Education. "The course is equipping medical scribes and coders in various organizations throughout the country to prepare for ICD-10 - one of the biggest changes in the healthcare industry in 2014. We are encouraged to see Anatomy & Physiology for Coders make such an impact on various skill levels!"

Last year, Indian Health Service (IHS)-an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services-distributed the ICD-10 readiness course to its staff coders nationwide.

Since 2013 alone, several major hospitals have signed up their coders for the increasingly popular course, including: William W. Backus Hospital health system, Fort HealthCare, Exeter Hospital, Marietta Memorial Hospital, and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center (SNHMC). Recently, Manchester Community College (MCC) in New Hampshire included the course in its new Investing in Career Upgrades for Healthcare H1B Skills Training Grant curriculum. Also this year, the course has been distributed by QualCode, a boutique-coding agency, and COMFORCE, a leading national provider of outsourced healthcare staffing solutions.

The ICD-10 readiness course was recently recognized by the Radiology Coding Certification Board (RCCB)-a radiology coding credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)-which now awards 23 CEU Credits for taking the course. This is in addition to the 24 American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) CEUs and 6 American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) CEUs offered to Anatomy & Physiology students.

One student said of the course, "I taught A+P related courses at the college level so I enrolled in the course with some skepticism. In other words, 'can I learn anything new?' I was pleasantly surprised because although I did that teaching, it was a long time ago. The most important thing I took away from the course was the regaining of study skills, which will be needed for learning the new ICD-10-CM and PCS coding systems. Other than that, it woke up a lot of A+P knowledge that was dormant, not having been actively used for years. I suspect that will be true for many experienced coders."
