  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2011 - Ryan Hammer, owner and CEO of Hammer Electric - a Lancaster CA based Electrical Contractor Company - launched a new website and complete web presence after noticing that sales were steadily dropping regardless of how much money his company spent on print ads and phone book sales.

Hammer commented on the lack of sales, "In this economy, we weren't seeing the revenue coming back from print ads so we had to do something. Contracts have been drying up for some time and it was imperative that we make an effort to catch up to technology."

After noticing sales were significantly down all across the board for his company, Hammer stated that he and a couple of other businesses compared notes and receipts for previous print ad campaigns. They graphed out the information and determined that the cost of the ads far exceeded any benefit for all of the businesses. They also started an information campaign, calling random numbers out of the phone book and each business started having consumers fill out questionnaires about where they had been referred from.

"Even taking out the percentages for people who might have been dishonest, each of us owners realized that most of our income was coming from word of mouth from previous customers - and that less than 2% of our sales was driven by people who had seen an ad or read the phone book." Ryan Hammer noted, "Times have changed and those phone book ads cost a ton of money to upkeep and we were not seeing any results. It's kind of sad, because we've put time, money and effort into them for years - but it just isn't working."

Hammer and the other businesses then decided to invest time to investigate getting into having an internet Web presence. Hammer stated that most of the Contractors and businesses were not "web savvy" and it was a learning curve for all of them. They hired Meki Cox, to start a marketing campaign to initially see what the reaction might be. After only a week of being online, Hammer announced that they had already received several hits and his business has been awarded a couple of contracts - even though the site is still in construction phase.

"None of us expected it to be instantaneous, but it was. So it really drove it home that people aren't reaching for their phone books, but that instead they are all going online and searching the information that they want. On computers... On Cell phones... It's really time to change our whole perception of how we want people to connect to us."

He noted that the site contains flash content and is geared towards branding and drawing attention to the Company as a "persona" so that consumers could identify or be drawn into the site.

"Surprisingly, this is a very interesting experiment that other major companies have already done studies on. But in our local area, people just haven't started realizing that we need to jump on the internet bandwagon or we're going to lose everything. Personally," Ryan Hammer stated, "I wanted our site to be artistic and to have a really "in-your-face" feel to it so that people can remember it."

After putting the site up for just a sampling, the businesses again did a survey and again were shocked at the answers they got. People remembered the site and the company. Seeing the reaction they have already gotten, even though the site is still under construction, the businesses were pleasantly shocked.

"We're making it a point to tell all the other Contractors out there that it's time to get your site seen... People aren't reading the phone books anymore... They're going online to find their information. You either have to join them or give up." Dan Cole from WhiteStone Construction advised, " We've already started some local meetings to show our study off. It's new, but it's pretty impressive already."

Hammer Electric's new site - while under construction still - can be seen at http://gohammerelectric.com and is for the Lancaster CA based Electrical Contractor. He said that the site will be in construction phase for the next couple of weeks as they test out different parts to see the consumer reaction.

When asked what kind of clientele he worked for, Hammer was quick to point out: Business, Industrial, Commercial and Residential Customers:

"Pretty much everyone, so hopefully they'll see our site, remember it and call us when they need us."
