Giro d'Italia 2011 - a spectacular route plan has been revealed

  • (1888PressRelease) January 25, 2011 - After the kickoff on May 7th 2011 in Turin, Italian and international cyclists will start the 3496 kilometers of the Giro d'Italia with a 21.5 kilometer team time trial. The next day (Sunday, 8th May) the cyclists will reach for one of the longest stages (242 kilometers) of the Po Valley, crossing also the culinary city of Parma - one of the most beautiful and spectacular cities in the Emilia-Romagna.

    Afterwards, the attention will be on to the cities of Reggio Emilia, Rapallo, Livorno at the sea side to the hills of Orvieto where the the difficult "strade bianche" could lead to another muddy race. The first mountain stage (1260 meters) will follow the next day at Monte Vergine di Mercogliano. Other highlights on the program of the 98th Tour of Italy include the Mount Etna (Europe's largest active volcano) in Sicily, Mount Zoncolan (1730 meters) in the Friuli and the Grossglockner in Austria.
