  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2011 - John Mulcahy, vice president of strategy and category effectiveness at Georgia-Pacific Professional, will be speaking along with Jim Hanna, director of environmental impact, Starbucks Coffee Co., at the 2011 Sustainable Packaging Forum, September 20-22 in Dallas, Texas. Together, the duo will give insight into the challenges and opportunities of sustainability and recycling practices in the foodservice industry. Specifically, Mulcahy will explore whether recycling can be a viable end-of-life option for paper-based foodservice packaging.

The Sustainable Packaging Forum, hosted by Packaging Strategies, is designed for consumer products' companies and companies that support them and will focus on the latest sustainable packaging practices, business strategies and technologies from across the globe that support company growth while meeting today's sustainability challenges.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to speak at this forward-thinking sustainability forum on behalf of Georgia-Pacific Professional," said John Mulcahy "The Sustainable Packaging Forum is a great platform for us to use the collaboration we have with the NRA and Starbucks to support ongoing industry discussions about sustainable solutions and practices that operators and end users are seeking."

Georgia-Pacific Professional and The National Restaurant Association (NRA) recently conducted joint research to identify current recycling practices of restaurants, as well as consumer demands and perceptions as they relate to restaurants' recycling and sustainability initiatives. The results, announced at the NRA Show in Chicago this past May, found that two-thirds of U.S. restaurant owners and operators currently have recycling programs as part of their environment efforts. Additionally, three out of five customers prefer to visit restaurants that have recycling practices in place. The findings will ultimately lead to industry recycling best practices to help better equip restaurant owners with information and solutions to enhance their sustainability offerings.
