  • (1888PressRelease) March 02, 2013 - Veteran angel investor and venture capital Georgetown alumni have teamed up to launch Georgetown Alumni Angels (GAA) to invest in startups (www.GeorgetownAlumniAngels.com). GAA is leveraging existing on campus and off campus groups related to Georgetown University to assemble a group of real angel investors, but also includes non-Georgetown angels and seeks to invest in the best startups with or without Georgetown alumni. GAA actively invites members of other angel groups to attend its events and join its growing platform to maximize investing capabilities and strategic relationships. Investors, entrepreneurs and other members of the entrepreneurial ecosystem can register for the event here http://georgetownalumniangels.eventbrite.com.

    Events
Georgetown Alumni Angels is currently seeking startups to pitch at its upcoming events in New York City, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Washington DC and London. The first event will take place in New York City the evening of March 19, 2013 and feature keynote speaker Brian Cohen, chairman of New York Angels, notable angel, first investor in Pinterest and author of What Every Angel Investor Wants You to Know : An Insider Reveals How to Get Smart Funding for Your Billion Dollar Idea. Non-Georgetown angels are encouraged to attend events and join the group to share deal flow and form powerful investor syndicates.

    Deal Flow & Team
Founders Andrew Romans and Joshua B. Siegel have combined their angel investment, venture capital and entrepreneurial experience and networks to source the very best investment opportunities for GAA. Romans and Siegel, former MBA classmates who met at Georgetown in 1998, each bring 20 years of entrepreneurial, venture capital, angel investing and investment banking experience together with solid strategic relationships with VCs, angel groups, private equity and executive level advisors.

    Mission
The mission of Georgetown Alumni Angels is to leverage the Georgetown University alumni community to provide funding and ecosystem advisory assistance for startups, increase alumni engagement and provide a high quality networking environment with real world events and online forums for students, alumni, investors and entrepreneurs active in areas of entrepreneurship, technology, finance and startups.

    Startups & Entrepreneurs
Georgetown Alumni Angels is focused on companies that utilize technology and advances in their respective fields. GAA does not focus on any one particular industry and seeks submissions of motivated entrepreneurs from pre-revenue startups to revenue generating, expansion stage companies.

    Mentors
Georgetown Alumni Angels is also assembling a powerful group of Hoyas (Georgetown alumni and community) to advise and mentor its portfolio companies as well as assist in the pitch and investment proposal process of companies. Georgetown Alumni Angels' managers act as a bridge among portfolio companies and the Georgetown alumni network. Mentors are experienced entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture capitalists and bankers eager to volunteer their time to help startups succeed.

    Benefits for Angels & Entrepreneurs
Serious angels benefit from aggregating their deal flow with other angels. Georgetown Alumni Angels' founders and mentors vet over 3,000 investment opportunities per annum and conduct due diligence on all selected investment opportunities. As the network grows so does deal flow. Increased deal flow equals better returns. GAA also provides best of breed legal structures optimizing the legal, admin and reporting costs of investing while providing portfolio companies the support of our powerful Hoya community and Georgetown Alumni Angels as a valuable institutional investor.
