  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2012 - Part of the Healthcare Centers of Excellence Summit, the Conference is scheduled May 15-17, 2012 at the Meliá Atlanta Hotel. May 15th will be the pre-Summit Workshop, Developing a Sustainable Healthcare Business Model.

Dr. Nunlee-Bland will use a 2008 study conducted at the Howard University Diabetes Treatment Center in conjunction with the Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program as a reference for her highly anticipated presentation. The study compared hemoglobin, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) changes in low-income African American type 2 diabetes patients. Patients were either randomized to receive diabetes education from a nurse through telemedicine support or received usual care from their primary care provider without telemedicine support. Results of the study revealed significant changes n hemoglobin and BMI measurements in the intervention group.

Healthcare executives attending the Conference will gain important insight into the benefits of telemedicine's applications, benefits and limitations at a diabetes center and determine if their facilities will yield improvements by utilizing this cutting edge treatment technology.
