  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) December 04, 2013 - Solar Energy USA, a national design and installation firm located in Alpharetta, Georgia, is proud to announce a government Department of Defense (DOD) award to design and install a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy project at the Georgia National Guard Hunter AASF in Savannah, Georgia.

The 106.795 kW project will use 403 solar panels covering over 7,200 square feet of roof space which will produce an estimated 161.724 kWh worth of solar power during its first year of operation. Over 35 years this system will offset 4,740 tons of CO2, equivalent to planting over 113,000 trees or removing over 15,000 gallons of gasoline from the road.

The decision for the Georgia DOD to go solar comes during a period of dynamic growth for the solar industry, as over 5.3 gigawatts (GW) of new American solar electric capacity is projected to come online in 2013 thanks to plummeting solar panel costs. The U.S. solar industry employs about 119,000 workers at more than 5,600 companies across every state. Since 2010, the solar industry has created nearly 20,000 new American jobs.
