  • Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) April 16, 2015 - A Texas summer camp owner has rapidly responded to a recent study among major U.S. employers that indicates that college grads are not properly equipped for the 21st Century workforce. "This is especially prevalent among girls," asserts Sunni Markowitz, owner of Camp Lantern Creek, who notes that girls' self-esteem starts to nosedive starting at age ten.

Markowitz has declared the 2015 camp season the "Summer of the Shero" (female superhero) and developed a fun summer curriculum that focuses on the "four C's" of 21st Century Leadership: Critical thinking and problem solving, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity and Innovation. Lantern Creek added its own "fifth C" to the summer - Courage. Campers are encouraged to take risks and learn skills like how to use power tools and change a flat tire, paddleboard, master public speaking, craft a compelling story, and more. Lantern Creek is also inviting successful and inspirational women to come to the camp to serve as mentors as a part of the Bright Lights program.

Says Markowitz, "We think of Lantern Creek as a place where a girl can completely be herself. She's not afraid to sing loud or play hard or get dirty. That kind of fun fearlessness is our greatest measure of success."
