An exclusive conference about trends in home environment (Environnement-Maison®) will focus on the main themes for 2011, as illustrated by French design. It will take place during the first two days of the MoOD tradeshow, in the show's dedicated seminar venue. Agnès Elisabelar, Head of International Markets at Espace Textile, will give an in-depth presentation on the subject.

The latest trends identified by Environnement-Maison® promise to reflect the widespread need to combine safety with current developments in fashion, to seek a balance between tradition and innovation, and to add interesting and different finishings, textures, feels or proportions. This approach to decoration focuses on detail, on unfamiliar things, on diversion, exchanges, the magic of colours, and on lightness. Four main trends stand out, and they will be demonstrated through four themed 'houses', which will be on display at the conference.

The FancyFactory house will offer strong, urban design, with graphics in tonic, chromatic contrasts, blending industrial charm with vintage fancy. The focus will be on dynamic, vivid colours (acid yellow, Klein blue, pillar-box red, etc.). Textiles will feature resilient bases with flexible finishings (cloudy wools, thick linens, geometric and/or 3D Jacquards, etc.). There will be geometric and vintage patterns on show, including optical illusions, tonic two-colour stripes, bright sketches and abstract pictures.

The ArtyCountry house will be full of old-world charm, with a bohemian style for dilettante artists fond of bargain-hunting and genre mixing. It will have a countryside feel with flaming, shimmering colours, including chanterelle yellow, chutney russet, fern green, and classic blue. The ArtyCountry house will feature traditional or trendy fabrics (washed-out linen, coloured tweed, corduroy, crumpling effects, eccentric patchworks, etc.) and customised patterns, including arty Bloomsbury-style collections (large flowers, animal motifs, and vintage postcard/photo prints).

The FusionFolk house will feature highly colourful, cosmopolitan styles, inspired by the various cultures of the world. The inspiration for the colours will come from the visual arts and will offer heady cosiness, together with bright, joyful, almost fluorescent tones, as well as artisanal/artificial hues. Textiles from all over the world will be showcased, including linen, embroidered thread, washed-out fabrics, re-coloured kilim mats and light silks. The focus will be on multicultural patterns, with inspiration drawn from multiple sources, such as revisited traditional African dress (or boubous), re-coloured ikats, and Hawaiian flowers.

The LightImpertinences house will focus on light-hearted elegance, with a touch of impertinent glamour, in order to counteract the boredom of classic 'posh' style. The colours will be soft and contrasted, with pastels combined with whites, highlighting glossy black and gold. The textiles will be transparent and glossy, with organdie worked into pleats, origami, flowing satin and pearly silk, microfibres, and quilted velvet. Patterns will focus on poetry and lightness, with contrasted colours, faux blends, sketches, figurative miniature drawings or graceful geometric patterns.
