  • (1888PressRelease) March 10, 2011 - Today, AltaTerra Research announced that it is offering complimentary access for government employees to its online briefing series, "Solutions for Sustainable Cities: Clean Technologies in Municipal Practice." Comprised of three briefings, the series features innovative approaches and proven solutions, case studies from actual implementations, and perspectives on cost-savings and other policy goals.     In "Managing Energy and Emissions for Systematic Savings" on March 31, Ariella Rosenberg Maron, deputy commissioner for energy management for New York City, and Brad Swing, director of energy policy for the City of Boston, will share inside views of municipal energy and carbon management strategy. Jennifer Ewing Thiel, director of tools and technical innovation at ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA, will describe the elements of a successful municipal carbon and energy reduction program. Jaclyn Pitera, senior analyst at AltaTerra Research, will provide an overview of the marketplace for environmental resource management systems, representative capabilities, and how systems are being deployed.

    On April 27, "Renewable Energy Program Successes and Challenges" features Jeff Janssen and Mary Tucker of the City of San Jose, who will discuss the city's solar goals in the context of local economic development and job creation, and detail how the city is installing solar and encouraging adoption throughout the community. David Herrmann, who managed the Department of Energy (DOE) Solar American Cities contract at CH2M Hill, will discuss how U.S. cities are adopting solar and what resources are available from the DOE Solar America Communities program. AltaTerra Research Managing Director of Research Jon Guice will open the briefing with an overview of the solar market today and municipal market drivers.

    In "Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Planning and Deployment" on May 12, Anne Hunt, environmental policy director for the City of St. Paul, will discuss the business case for municipal investment in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. St. Paul Senior Planner Merritt Clapp-Smith will discuss practical steps for implementation. Don Bray, president of AltaTerra Research, will give a brief overview of EV technology and predicted adoption rates.
