Former Piedmont Laureate Jaki Shelton Green to Host October 2010 Poet Local Series

    The Poet Local series explores poets' lives and writing styles. The informal events are free, open to the public, and are catered to those interested in learning about publishing poetry and meeting local writers. "We're extremely pleased that Jaki, a former laureate, is bringing her expertise to Living Poetry's members," said Angelika Teuber, Living Poetry's Organizer. Due to enriching events like the Poet Local series, creative workshops and readings, Living Poetry's membership has grown by almost 100% in less than a year.

    The Journey to Piedmont Laureate

    Green will share her publishing tips and discuss her path to creating a career as a writer. Green's poetry has appeared in places such as The Crucible, Pedestal Magazine, Ms. Magazine, Essence and The Sound of Poets Cooking Anthology. She has published a handful of books, including Dead on Arrival, Masks and Conjure Blues (Carolina Wren Press). Most recently, Green was awarded the 2010 LINKS Raleigh Chapter Fine Arts Emerald Award. In addition to her publishing credits Green coaches workshops and gives poetry readings around the United States, the Caribbean and South America.
