  • (1888PressRelease) April 29, 2011 - PALM BEACH , FL - The Palm Beach Rollergirls have partnered with Arizona-based textile recycling company, The Bra Recyclers, to collect bras to help support and empower women in need. Bras will be collected by the Palm Beach Rollergirls at their upcoming bout against the Dub City Derby Girls on May 14th. As an incentive to donate, The Palm Beach Rollergirls will be offering $1 off tickets at the door with the donation of a new or gently used bra.

The Palm Beach Rollergirls decided to collect bras when Rollergirl Katie "elecTrix" Robinson, a member of the Palm Beach Rollergirls team, connected with The Bra Recyclers online by becoming a Bra Recycling Ambassador. Robinson noted that the "roller derby team is frequently involved with charitable organizations that benefit women" and they decided to participate in collecting used bras because The Bra Recyclers "is an ideal fit" with their community involvement. Bra Recyclers CEO and Founder, Elaine Birks-Mitchell touched on the uniqueness of this serious social problem stating, "Having a clean bra to wear is something that most women take for granted. There are women around the world who lack a clean, properly fitting bra. Providing bras to women in our communities and globally provides support and encouragement to women in need. We are very excited to have The Palm Beach Rollergirls helping this cause in such a fun, empowering way!"

The derby bout will take place at SkateZone, located at 8125 Lake Worth Rd. For more information on the Palm Beach Rollergirls or other events they are hosting, please visit www.palmbeachrollergirls.com.
