  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) November 30, 2010 - Farella Braun + Martel partner Stephanie P. Skaff has been elected secretary of the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF). Her service as secretary will begin what is traditionally a four-year tracked board commitment, during which she will be subsequently nominated for the officer roles of treasurer (2012), president-elect (2013) and president (2014).

"This is quite an honor for Stephanie and the firm. It is a direct result of her dedication and hard work on BASF matters for many years," said managing partner Steve Lowenthal. "She's following in the presidential footsteps of Farella partners Frank Farella, who served in 1978, and Doug Young, who served in 2001."

The Bar Association of San Francisco was established in 1872 and provides its membership of more than 8,000 legal professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area with pro-bono and networking opportunities. In particular, BASF works to advance the professional standards of the legal profession, provide legal services to disadvantaged and underserved members of the community, and to cultivate culture and diversity in the legal profession.

Skaff is a member of Farella Braun + Martel's Business Litigation and Intellectual Property and Technology groups where she handles complex litigation matters, including fraud, securities, false claims, antitrust and intellectual property litigation. She has been actively involved with BASF for many years, including serving on the Board of Directors from 2005 to 2007. She currently chairs the BASF Finance Committee and sits as a member of the Executive Committees of both the BASF Litigation Section and the BASF Securities Litigation Section.

Skaff received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (1995), where she received the Stephen P. Jameson Award for Advocacy and Scholarship, served as an associate editor for the California Law Review, and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. She was a law clerk for the Honorable D. Lowell Jensen of the United States District Court of the Northern District of California.

Skaff will be installed, along with all other 2011 BASF officers, at their annual membership luncheon on December 14 in San Francisco.
