  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2012 - Fabrizio Lombardi, International Test Conference endowed chair at North-eastern University, has been named editor in chief of IEEE Computer Society's new open-access journal, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing (TETC).

    Lombardi has a long association with IEEE Transactions on Computers, having served two terms as editor in chief and two terms as associate editor in chief, in addition to serving as associate editor of ACM JETC and IEEE Design & Test of Computers. Currently, he is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology and IEEE Transactions on CAD of ICAS.

    TETC will publish papers on emerging aspects of computer science, computer engineering, information technology, software, and applications not currently covered by other IEEE transactions. The online-only journal is currently accepting submissions at http://www.computer.org/portal/web/tetc.

    An IEEE Fellow and IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor, Lombardi holds a doctorate in electronic engineering from University College London. Within the Computer Society, he has been an ex-officio member of the Publications Board, as well as the Operations Committees on Transactions and the Computer Society Digital Library. He serves as chair of the IEEE Computer Society Test Technology Technical Council Committee on Nanotechnology and is a member of the steering committee for the IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology.

    In professional activities, Lombardi has initiated and chaired many Society-sponsored meetings, such as the IEEE Symposia on NCA and DFT in VLSI Systems. His achievements have been recognized by awards from industry, the IEEE Engineering Foundation, and the Canadian, Japanese, and US governments.

    TETC is one of several IEEE open-access journals being developed in response to the academic community's calls for articles to be freely available to the public. With open access, readers can download articles without paying subscription fees. Instead, authors pay a fee to publish their articles. The open-access author fee will be $1,350 per article.
