  • (1888PressRelease) January 05, 2011 - Tour Operator Escaped To Latin America is hoping that Peruvian President Alan Garcia's proposal for a "Free movement" zone will be accepted by Chilean President Sebastian Piņera.

The proposal was presented recently by Peru's Minister of Economy and Finance, Mercedes Araoz, to Chilean Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno during Araoz's visit to Chile, but no further developments have occurred since.

Critics of the proposal believe this is because of Chile's long-running conflict with Peru over land ownership in Chile's northern territories which prompted Peru to file a complaint at the International Court of Justice (The Hague) in 2008.

However, many people, including business owners, can see strong benefits from a "Free movement" zone being established through a deal between Chile and Peru.

"From a tourism perspective, many barriers would be removed," explains Gary Sargent, Managing Director of Escaped To Latin America. "We face a lot of associated costs and complications when booking custom tours for clients that visit different countries in South America as part of the same trip. Many of these would no longer be an issue."

"We would be in a position to pass savings onto our clients," Mr. Sargent continued, "And our suppliers in the various South American countries where we offer tours would greatly benefit from the removal of restrictions."

"It would also be a positive step for international relations between Chile and Peru following their land-ownership conflict," He added.

Escaped To Latin America currently offer custom tours that include multiple-country destinations such as wine and adventure tours in Chile and Argentina, nature tours in Peru and the Galapagos islands and cultural tours to Peru and Easter Island.
