  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2026 - Ernest Dempsey is thrilled to announce the publication of his new book “ScreenScope with Ernie - Volume 1” (Mar 29, 2029) that offers critique of 50 movies in sci-fi, horror, mystery, and thriller genres. The essays in this book, the first in the author’s ScreenScope series, analyze and/or assess the selected movies in the context of their artistic merit and richness of meaning in literary, moral, social, and philosophical realms.

Originally published as a weekly column on the site Channillo.com, Dempsey’s essays in this volume include movies from 1950s all the way up to 2020 with most titles released in the ‘70s. Feature films from both Hollywood and international cinema are included in the book and some of the works reviewed are feature length made-for-TV films.

“The book moves across decades, with a real affection for older films. I was especially intrigued to see The Gorgon included, because I remember seeing it on TV many years ago (in the late 1960s) and it frightened the life out of me. That made the essay even more enjoyable for me. Readers should know that this is not a spoiler-free guide. Ernest discusses plots and endings in detail. For me, that works because the book is about analysis, not just recommendation. A thoughtful and engaging collection for readers who enjoy classic and offbeat genre cinema.” - Alan Gray, editor and publisher at NewsBlaze
