  • (1888PressRelease) July 18, 2020 - Coronavirus pandemic severely impacted the job market, leaving many workers jobless and disrupting the hiring process for fresh candidates across industries.

Amidst an ongoing employment crisis in the country, a group of students from IITs, IIMs, and other prestigious students have come forward to help people find jobs in the Delhi-NCR region, which is home to migrant workers from across the country. The group called SIGMA (Students For Involved Governance and Mutual Action) has launched a new job helpline number “8800883323,” dubbed as “Ekatra.”

To make the novel initiative a success, the students are getting support from Deputy Commissioner of Delhi, Mr. Abhishek Singh, and Durga Shakti Nagpal, Indian civil servant and officer.

Built with MyOperator cloud telephony solution, Ekatra job helpline aims to simplify the process of job hunting and fill the gap between demand and supply of skilled, semi-skilled, as well as unskilled workers.

Lead by students, Ekatra helpline is working as a bridge between job seekers hit by COVID-19 impact and job providers. A group of students is volunteering to attend calls from candidates who need jobs and companies who need to hire new workers. The helpline is available from 10 am to 7 pm every day.

Jobseekers in Delhi NCR can seek help from Ekatra helpline by giving a call on 8800883323 and answering basic questions about the job using IVR inputs. Based on IVR inputs, their calls are routed to the appropriate volunteers who further help them with their job applications.

Released on June 19 with only 2 channels to receive the calls, the helpline has grown to have 100 channels within 2 weeks of its operation. On July 6, the group received 80,000 calls from job seekers in a single day. Such large call volume is handled with a combination of about 100 volunteers, IVR menu to route calls to the appropriate volunteer, and SMS follow-up for missed calls.

Callers, whose calls are missed, get an SMS with a link to fill a job application form online and those details are updated in the job database by the group. When their profile is matched with a vacancy, they get a callback, facilitated by MyOperator outbound call service, for interview.

Potential employers can also call the helpline to get their requirements to get recorded in the job database made by the group. Based on interaction with prospective employers, the group documents the job requirements in the database based on skill requirements, industry, and urgency and matches the vacancy with potential workers suitable for the job.

During the lockdown necessitated by Coronavirus, businesses were forced to shut down or downsize operations temporarily, and lacs of migrant workers had to leave the city in the absence of livelihood. Now, when the economy is opening up and workers returning to the city, there is a need to match suitable workers with employers in need.

The Ekatra helpline is helping the workers who lost their jobs amidst COVID-19-forced lockdown to get back to work by connecting them with employers and support new entrants with their job search.

Earlier, using the MyOperator helpline system, over 30 medical institutions and NGOs across India launched COVID-19 helplines to support medical and general support to help people fight the pandemic. Simultaneously, businesses across the country used cloud telephony solutions to shift their business calls on the cloud.

Staying connected during social distancing and lockdown has been the toughest challenge. We are quite excited to see how cloud telephony has come forward to help businesses and society in unprecedented ways to stay connected with each other. That makes us work even harder to sharpen our technology to help everyone in the community stay connected and move forward.
