  • (1888PressRelease) July 29, 2010 - "The development of sustainable buying policies shows there exists a genuine, substantial momentum. We have included a CSR suppliers' charter and clauses relating to sustainable development within our calls for tenders or contracts. But we want to go further, still, by supporting our suppliers and sub-contractors in an approach towards ongoing improvement in their Sustainable Development performance," declares Richard Lalande, Chairman of the FTF's Sustainable Development Commission. "The EcoVadis platform seemed to us to be an excellent solution in reinforcing this approach."

Pierre-François Thaler, EcoVadis Managing Director and co-founder, adds, "This agreement with the FTF [Fédération Française des Télécoms] allows us to deploy our platform with all operators, and it demonstrates the relevance of our shared model. Such standardisation is key to fostering change in the practices used within supply chains. French operators have highly structured policies in terms of Sustainable Development, and we are proud to be part of this initiative."

EcoVadis SP® is a new, integrated solution offering businesses a platform for assessing and monitoring ethical, environmental and social performance among their key suppliers in over 120 countries. Thanks to the EcoVadis solution, operators can access their suppliers' evaluations in relation to 21 key environmental, social and ethical criteria, taking into account specific issues in 150 business sectors. At this point in time, over 30 major international groups (and close to half the companies listed on the CAC40 index, on the Paris Bourse) already use EcoVadis to assess their suppliers' CSR performance.

Companies in the Fédération Française des Télécoms (FTF), the French trade association for the telecommunications industry, have pledged to contribute to France's range of commitments in the environmental field. More particularly, the telecoms companies are keen to reduce the environmental impact of their operations. At national level, this was expressed through a charter that was signed on 22 July 2010 with Chantal Jouanno, France's Secretary of State for Ecology.

Telecoms operators are thereby committed to having an exemplary approach towards their partners and suppliers through the implementation of responsible buying policies. To that end, the telecoms operators have decided to establish a common standard in terms of their suppliers' CSR performance assessment, which will help provide reliable information and facilitate the work of their suppliers. The solution selected to measure and assess Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was that designed and developed by EcoVadis.

EcoVadis operates the first SaaS collaborative platform helping major companies to assess their suppliers' environmental and social performance. EcoVadis combines an information system and a network of Corporate Social Responsibility analysts in order to provide buyers with simple and reliable information covering 150 purchasing categories, 150 countries, and 21 indicators (ranging from "CO2 emissions" to "child labour").

EcoVadis solutions can help businesses reduce risks and improve their suppliers' performance.
In a recent study ("Unchaining Value Report"), UNEP/Global Compact mentioned the fact that, "Businesses should use databases like EcoVadis… because they collect and distribute data about suppliers, and they provide buyers with an integrated supplier assessment tool focused on Sustainable Development indicators."

EcoVadis has created the leading database on suppliers' social/environmental risks. Whether a company needs to evaluate the CSR performance of 10, 100 or 1000 of its suppliers, EcoVadis SP® ensures that reliable information can be easily deployed to the procurement teams and smoothly integrated into procurement processes.
