  • (1888PressRelease) May 11, 2011 - Author Robert Lovett's new book, Fallen Flower Child - A 60's Mystery of Passion & Murder, combines the gothic atmosphere of an Edgar Allan Poe mystery with the free love and freewheeling attitude of the 1960s into an edge of your seat read perfect for the beach, an airplane or lazy afternoon. Available exclusively as an ebook for Kindle, Nook and other electronic readers, Fallen Flower Child - A 60's Mystery of Passion & Murder is available now for download.

As Baby Boomers age, their thirst for the nostalgia for the passionate decade of their youth makes this book especially appealing. Lovett's contemporary homage to the style of his literary hero Edgar Allan Poe (the character Bel takes her name from the writer's poem Annabel Lee), places the reader squarely in the flower-power era of shifting morals among the nation's young people. Protagonist Thomas "Sandy" Waverly explains his awful deed in the book's prologue, which like the beginning of Poe's confessional short stories, builds anticipation for the rest of the story:

"I, like almost everyone else in that flower-powered decade, felt that I, too, rightfully deserved my fair share of the Love craze! Like most of my peers, I simply went a bit… overboard when MY slice of the delicious, seductive love pie was finally laid before my eyes and tantalizingly set mere inches from my reach! Of course, as I soon discovered to my eternal dismay, 'temporary insanity' could never justify what I then proceeded to do 'in the name of love.'

Careful readers will recognize many of the references to other Poe poems and stories, with the frankness and experimental openness that marked the turbulent 60s. Advance reader comments about Fallen Flower Child - A 60's Mystery of Passion & Murder praise the book for its attention to the larger social and cultural background of the 1960s, and its meticulous setting detail of the Boston, New York and the Hamptons of the time.
