  • Kansas City, MO-KS (1888PressRelease) August 24, 2013 - Of all the major endocrine organs of the body, the thyroid is perhaps the most overlooked, under-diagnosed, and under-replaced. Patients that are diagnosed with "depression," "fibromyalgia," and the like are frequently sub-clinically - or even clinically - hypothyroid. Dr. Cady will present on the epidemiology of hypothyroidism and current hypotheses for causation.

Dr. Cady will also present on the futility of attempting to "intuit" the complete thyroid axis based on one test (TSH), and explain the balance among TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, and the "cortisol connection." Attendees will be able to evaluate laboratory tests for the detection of subtle (or frank) hypothyroidism, know when it is appropriate to check for thyroid antibodies, and know which supplementation strategies are likely to work.

Louis Cady obtained his medical degree in 1989 from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He then trained in psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic, beginning his practice of child, adolescent, adult, and forensic psychiatry in Evansville, Indiana in 1993. Dr. Cady's main clinical focus is in helping patients achieve total wellness and optimum levels of performance through the integration of mind and body for peak performance. Dr. Cady founded the Cady Wellness Institute, which opened its facilities in Evansville on July 1, 2005.
