  • (1888PressRelease) March 16, 2012 - Emily Ward-Smith is now the proud owner of Dinas Vets, after she turned her dream into a reality. After receiving a BSc (Hons) degree in Zoology in 1995, Emily travelled extensively overseas before returning to Bristol University as a mature student to complete her qualifications as a Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences in 2007. She then worked as a Veterinary Assistant in several practices to learn what was involved before looking to realise her ambitions of one day opening her own practice.

Having undertaken intensive research and identified Dinas Powys as being an ideal location, Emily approached Chris Evans & Mark Woolley of the Specialist Healthcare Team at RBS to seek bank finance to start building work on her leased premises, allow for start-up costs and purchase equipment for the practice.

With the funding in place Emily recently opened the practice which has the capability to provide routine veterinary consultations, on site-surgery, hospitalisation, pharmacy, radiography and on site laboratory for blood testing. This enables Emily to provide timely answers to many difficult pet health questions on site within hours of presentation. To support the practices daily demands, Emily will recruit four team members to increase the services she is able to offer the pets of Dinas Powys and beyond.

Commenting on the new venture, Emily Ward-Smith, Owner of Dinas Vets said: "It's hard to believe the day has finally come to open up my own practice. I am excited about the prospects this will bring and delighted I can finally turn my five years training into practice. The people of Dina Powys have been incredibly welcoming and supportive, for which I am grateful, and I look forward to providing a high quality, personal service to pets and their owners. Thanks to Chris and Mark at RBS I am able to own and work in an industry I am very passionate about."

Mark Woolley, Relationship Manager at RBS added: "I'm thrilled that RBS has been able to provide the support and funding to assist Emily's dream become a reality. Emily has put a lot of time and energy into developing her business and it's great to see all of her hard work paying off - she is proof that small businesses are still thriving. I wish Emily all the best as she settles into her new premises and establishes herself within the Dinas Powys community."
