Darragh MacAnthony, highly regarded entrepreneur and philanthropist gives free iPads to the first school to replace textbooks with iPads in Ireland

  • (1888PressRelease) August 05, 2011 - Darragh MacAnthony, a native of Dublin, is a highly regarded entrepreneur and philanthropist.

    St Colman's College has described Mr MacAnthony's sponsorship as "a generous and philanthropic decision and a gesture that is indeed praiseworthy".

    Mr MacAnthony has been liaising with the school's principal, Jimmy Finn, since reading the original St Colman's iPad story on MayoToday.ie.

    He said that he was so excited to read about such an historic step being taken in his home country that he decided to offer the 7 free iPads to the 62 first year students.

    Mr MacAnthony said: "The initiative supported by St Colman's College is tremendous. I am thrilled for the students, parents and teachers who are part of this historic step forward and their courage deserves to be commended.

    "Initiatives like this encourage a greener Ireland and ensure that we continue to be a worldwide leader in progressive education," added Mr MacAnthony.

    The entrepreneur has just launched a project Darragh MacAnthony School Tools which offers free educational resources to people worldwide. He himself makes the selections.

    Mr MacAnthony took over as chairman at Peterborough at the age of 30, making him the youngest chairman in the Football League.
