  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) December 22, 2011 - Film and television composer Daniel Licht will receive Composer of the Year at the Third Annual Russian Horror Film Awards on January 28, 2012 in Moscow. Supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Cinematography Union, this event honors both native and foreign films, actors, directors, and composers within the horror genre. Past honorees include Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Jeffrey Combs (The Re-Animator). Daniel Licht will be honored with Composer of the Year for his repertoire within the horror genre, which includes Thinner, Children of the Corn, Dexter and the upcoming videogame Silent Hill: Downpour score.

Daniel Licht's scoring approach has solidified him as one of a kind. Licht's eccentric techniques create an anxious and fearful environment for his most notable work, Emmy Award winning Dexter. Licht's scoring, described as "eerie", employs his most diverse techniques- playing instruments upside down, sideways, and with human bones. The show follows Dexter Morgan, a serial killer turned executioner. Unable to be traced, he continues to kill only those that have committed murder themselves. In January, Showtime will be conducting a score remix contest of Daniel Licht's "Blood Theme" from Dexter.

Daniel Licht enters new territory with his original score for the videogame Silent Hill: Downpour. Downpour will explore new territory the previous Silent Hill games have not yet ventured. Licht stated at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, "I'm inspired by the mood and the story. I try to come up with a sound world that I feel like will amplify and augment the player's experience. I incorporated piano, industrial sounds, and the mandolin. Composing for videogames takes me back to the form of the music because it doesn't always have to fit the visuals".

Daniel Licht's composing techniques are not limited to horror. He scores weekly ABC's Body of Proof, a show following a medical examiner, giving way to the day to day turmoil she goes through- creating a feeling of apprehension and hardship. His most recent film, Dumbstruck, is a documentary about five ventriloquists and their "dummies" at the annual Vent Haven Convention in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. Dumbstruck DVD and soundtrack are now available.

Daniel Licht got his musical start in independent films with Stephen King's Thinner. After scoring Splendor for Gregg Araki, he went on to score Cowboy Up for Academy Award winning director Xavier Koller. He has also worked with director Alex Cox and was commissioned to work with actor and producer Ben Stiller.

The Third Annual Russian Horror Film Awards support the developing Russian horror industry and the Russian film service. The three day event includes a film festival, master classes, and an autograph signing event. Other honorees this year include director Stuart Gordon (Stuck), director AJ Annila (Sauna) and actress Jodelle Ferland (Twilight Saga: Eclipse).
