  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2011 - Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. investment sales specialist Brian Whitmer will speak at the New Jersey Distressed Assets Conference this month. Whitmer, CCIM, a Director with the firm's Metropolitan Area Capital Markets Group in East Rutherford, was selected as a featured panelist along with executives from Prism Capital Partners LLC, The Marsh & McLennan Agency, McCarter & English LLP, William Procida Incorporated (WPI), Onyx Equities, LLC and The Pinnacle Companies.

The event, slated for Tuesday, Oct. 18, is being hosted by ScheinMedia. It will take place from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Eisenhower Conference Center, 290 West Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Livingston. "While the market for distressed investments in New Jersey remained softer than we anticipated through the bulk of the recession, recent shifts in perspective may change that in the coming months," Whitmer said. "Until now, an 'extend and pretend' mentality permeated the market, with many lenders waiting for a better day. Now, they are beginning to see that the rebound is going to take some time, and in 2012 we expect to see a growing number capitalize on opportunities to exit properties advantageously."

Whitmer is one of four partners with the highly successful Metropolitan Area Capital Markets Group, which services pension fund advisors, REITs, and a range of domestic and foreign private investors. His team specializes exclusively in investment sales and joint venture advisory of office, industrial, multifamily and retail properties throughout New Jersey, New York, Fairfield County, Conn., and Pennsylvania. It has completed more than $15.2 billion worth of transactions since 2000.

Whitmer is a designee of the CCIM Institute, positioning him among an elite group nationwide. He holds memberships in the National Multi Housing Council and the New Jersey Apartment Association, serves as a co-chair of NAIOP's Developing Leaders committee, and is on ICSC's Next Generation committee. He was named Cushman & Wakefield's New Jersey "Rookie of the Year" in 2005.
