Bill Hionas says Gold Performs Better than Equities and Provides a Shield against Losses Elsewhere

Top Quote Investors should add to their gold bullion holdings, not sell them. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) October 11, 2011 - MIAMI, FL - Many investors become nervous when they witness volatility in the precious metals market; additionally, when the macroeconomic environment looks troubled, there is often a rush to liquidate and this means selling gold bullion since this is generally the best-performing asset.

This would appear to be something of a 'knee-jerk' reaction, however. Investors who have diversified their portfolios into gold and other precious metals bullion will have found that gains in gold alone more than compensated them for losses elsewhere. Gold has earned its safe-haven status for a good reason; it has historically performed well in recessions or periods of inflation. Even a relatively small investment in gold would be sufficient to shield investors from losses in the equity markets. Far from selling their gold bullion, savvy investors are actually increasing their holdings, taking advantage of temporary dips to amass more of the yellow metal. Even considering the significant drop in prices in late September, gold prices still remain at least 17% up over the year as a whole and gold is now rallying strongly; many analysts believe it is heading back towards $1700 or even $1800 and above in the next few weeks. Gold is more than fulfilling its role as an insurance policy for those with diversified portfolios.

"The forecast for gold remains bullish," says Bill Hionas. "Market experts are revising forecasts upward with $1850 being targeted by the beginning of 2012."
