  • Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - Timothy Leistner, Educator for Florida Atlantic University, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

    Leistner, who holds a BA in Education from Ohio University, a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, and an EdD in Child and Youth Studies-Curriculum and Development and Systemic Change, both from Nova Southeastern University, began working in his field in with special needs students in Houston, Texas. After moving to Florida he began teaching elementary school-aged children for the private sector, as well as serving as a teacher on special assignment for the public sector.

    Having taught at the university level for over eighteen years, Leistner instructs teacher education, language arts and literature, and early childhood development courses. He lectures, partakes in teacher trainings, administration, conducts research, does grant writing, staff development, quality control, testing, and a variety of other day to day educational tasks.

    "My inspiration comes from the beauty of our world, my family, and the wonderment of watching children as they demonstrate their accomplishments through uninhibited undertakings," Leistner said about his career in education.

    In addition to his educational background, Leistner is also a visual artist, having been involved in juried art exhibitions since the mid 1980s. He began selling his works within commercial galleries and museums after winning numerous ribbons and art awards within community artist exhibitions. His expertise is in watercolor and acrylic painting and fine art photography.

    Leistner opened the Artist's Eye Fine Art Gallery in 2007, showcasing the art work of local, established, and master artists along with his own artwork. He has created numerous cover art for books, including: Angel Parent Memories; Exploring Language Arts Through Literature: Birth-Grade 8; and Multicultural Cookbook. He's been named Best Visual Artist by New Times in 2011, earned an Individual Leadership Award from ArtServe in 2009, was named Artist of the Year for Community Impact through ArtServe in 2008, was named Outstanding Member for the Early Childhood Association of Florida's local affiliate in 2004, and was appointed a State Residency Artist for the State of Florida through the Cultural Affairs Division in Tallahassee in 2001. He's authored two books, Exploring Language Arts Through Literature and Birth Through 8th Grade, both in 2008.
