    Beginning his research career in 1979 at the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA upon completion of his doctoral study at Stanford University, Russell L. Stockard soon returned to graduate school at UCLA to obtain his MBA in Marketing. Landing a position in marketing and marketing analysis in telecommunications and cable television soon after, he spend a decade in the field before making the decision to return to academia as a faculty member in communication at California Lutheran University.

    Currently a professor at the University, Mr. Stockard teaches, researches, advises, and serves the University with the utmost professionalism. He performs research in a number of areas, including Cultural Studies, Diaspora Studies, Disaster Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Ecocriticism, Environmental Communication, Information, Communication, and Technology, and Communication is Social, and Economic Development, National and Place Branding, and Sports and Communication. In regards to classes taught, they have included Broadcasting and New Media, Intercultural Communication, Small Group Communication, Entertainment Industry Marketing, and Sports-Related Marketing.

    "My training in literary studies and communication research, as well as my experience in broadcasting, marketing, and marketing analysis have all contributed to my success. I have worked in corporate and community settings, which helped me become more versatile and I have proficiency in several languages, an expertise that permits me to explore other cultures in a globalized world," Mr. Stockard said, who comes from a family of educators and has stimulated an interest in mentoring and advising the youth in his daily profession.

    Aspiring to become an author in the near future, Mr. Stockard plans to continue growing as a teacher and in his research. Currently holding an AB in History and an AM in Portuguese from Harvard University, an MBA in Marketing from UCLA, and a PhD in Communications from Stanford University, Mr. Stockard is an active member of the Caribbean Studies Association and the International Communications Association. He previously served as the president of the Southern California Chapter of the National Association of Minorities in Cable and served as a volunteer radio host at public radio station KCLU-FM for four years, from 1995-99. Mr. Stockard is also the recipient of a 1989 President's Award as a Walter Kaitz Cable Television Fellow.
