  • Richmond-Petersburg, VA (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2013 - Robert "Bob" S. Worthington, Owner of Grey Haven Arms, has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Robert S. Worthington's commitment to excellence in Business and the art of Muzzle Loading Firearms.

Retired high school special education teacher Robert S. Worthington opened Grey Haven Arms in the late 1990s part-time while still juggling a full-time teaching career. After he retired from classroom teaching in 2006, his business became a full-time operation and has been ever since.

The name 'Grey Haven' was established from a previous business that Worthington owned in the 1970s, Grey Haven Boatworks. Grey Haven Boatworks was a full-time boat building business that he owned and operated until the late 1990s.

As sole proprietor of his gun shop, Worthington runs the operations, books, and every other aspect of the business. But his best work is in recreating timeless, classic artifacts of historical heritage, otherwise known as firearms.

"My work requires much study into the what, why, and how things were done in order to understand what it is you are creating," Worthington explained. "First and foremost, you must have a thorough knowledge of the history of the time you are recreating with deep research into the arms themselves."

Woodworking, metalwork and metallurgy, patternmaking, and the esoteric methodologies used in the construction of archaic firearms are also imperative in the reconstruction of a firearm. However, it is the art that Worthington attributes as the biggest contributor to the success of his business.

Hoping to grow Grey Haven Arms in an effort to spread the knowledge and skills necessary to keep his trade alive, Worthington believes that education is like music; if it isn't shared, it's wasted.

Worthington's work has been displayed at the Gunmaker's Hall at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association headquarters in Friendship, Indiana. His guns have also earned him numerous marksmanship awards throughout the years. He's a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, National Rifle Association, Bull Run Muzzle Leaders, 1838 Rendezvous Association, Washington State Muzzle Loaders Association, Virginia State Shooters Association, Isaak Walton League, and Nature Conservancy.
