  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2015 - Paz Dia Belino, Retired Lecturer for Ahmadu Belo University, has been selected as a Professional of the Year Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

Paz Dia Belino, who earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of the Philippines in 1957, obtained her very first teaching position immediately after graduation at the Catanduanes Agricultural and Fishery School, a regional, one-of-a-kind school in the Philippines.

Teaching home economics and agriculture, Ms. Belino was also a class advisor. She taught at the college level at Ahmadu Bello University, in senior secondary education, in senior schools, and taught and worked for the Ministry of Agriculture in the Philippines, Canada, Nigeria, and Botswana for 45 years before retiring. Her experience working with people of different nationalities in various countries with varied ideologies and cultures served her well in the classroom, and her positive, can-do attitude both attributed to her success in teaching.

Ms. Belino was also involved in various community activities, including the Parent Teachers Association, town festivities, religious celebrations, national political election duties, agricultural and home economics demonstrations and exhibits, class educational trips and excursions, town projects, and assistance to residents during typhoons and other natural disasters.

"I will continue to do volunteer work in every possible way as long as I am able," Ms. Belino said. "I am not new to volunteer work. Presently, I am working with the Brentwood Community United Methodist Church distributing food and clothing to the needy. It gives me a good feeling of self-worth."

Ms. Belino has worked with students, schools and colleges, non-governmental organizations, youth, men and women in the community, villages, government officials and agencies, all of which she is truly grateful for the opportunity. She's also been recognized with certificates and awards for workshops, subject demonstrations, seminars, and volunteer work she has participated in.

As an alumna of the University of the Philippines, Ms. Belino is still an active member of Sigma Beta Sorority's New York chapter. Sigma Beta Sorority is a sisterhood of excellence that raises funds to help people who need medical emergency treatments, helps in the aftermath of natural disasters, such as typhoons and floods, and provides educational assistance. Ms. Belino also participated in volunteer work for three years for drought relief efforts in Botswana with the Dutch Reformed Church and has contributed 105 volunteer hours with Hope House. She thanks all of those she has met and worked with all these years and feels truly grateful for the rare opportunity God has given her. She is also grateful to her late husband who worked for the United Nations/Food and Agriculture Organization as an expert on veterinary public health, which made it possible for her to teach, work, and volunteer in the aforementioned other countries.
