  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) July 23, 2012 - Michelle Salerno, Assistant Principal for Rosary High School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Michelle Salerno's commitment to excellence in Education.

Salerno, who earned her BA in Psychology from North Central College, followed by her MS in Counseling Psychology from Northern Illinois University, began working professionally twenty-four years ago. For the first eleven years, she worked in a mental health setting as a counselor/supervisor. She also served as a director of comprehensive mental health services for the Kendall County Department of Health.

For the past thirteen years, Salerno has been working at Rosary High School, first as a guidance counselor, then as the dean of women. Since 2010, she has been serving as the school's assistant principal and director of counseling and advising. Her responsibilities are vast, including supervising teacher faculty and overseeing the curriculum, overseeing faculty and student scheduling, providing guidance to parents, students, faculty, and staff, serving as faculty liaison to the Board of Directors, providing direct supervision to all counselors and counseling and advising committees, plus a host of other day to day tasks. Salerno also serves on numerous committees, including the safety, handbook, and anti-racism committees.

Inspired by her parents and numerous teachers and supervisors over the years, Salerno also credits her education to her successful career in both counseling and education, saying, "I believe that my educational background coupled with my mental health counseling experience contributes to my success. I believe that as a counselor I have learned how to truly listen to people. I've gained a tremendous appreciation for the period of life called adolescence."

Aspiring to work on her doctorate degree in psychology and to continue teaching, Salerno is excited for the future. She is a current member of the American Psychology Association.
