  • Austin-San Marcos, TX (1888PressRelease) August 20, 2015 - Marty Brown, Nurse, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.

Marty Brown began her career in nursing at the age of 16 in 1971. The high school she was attending, Joseph Pomeroy Widney High, was offering a program where she could earn credits while being a "candy striper". She experienced her first autopsy and became fascinated with the workings of the human body.

Ms. Brown has worked in various healthcare settings, such as volunteering at women's free clinic in Chula Vista, California and The Center for Gays & Lesbians in San Diego, California where she supports her daughter. Her experience extends to minor surgical procedures, giving injections, dressing wounds, diagnostics procedures, such as pulmonary function tests and electrocardiograms. She is an expert at calling in patients' prescriptions, scheduling surgical procedures, giving patient education, serving as a liaison for pharmaceutical representatives, transcription, sous-psychologist to patients and their families, preparing meals, doing laundry and housecleaning, bathing, transferring patients, incontinent care, caring for patients' pets, taking patients' to appointments, grocery shopping, and running occasional errands. Ms. Brown would even entertain the patients if she thought it would make them feel better.

More recently, Ms. Brown has stepped into the role of Alzheimer's and dementia care where she is excelling. The Harbor at Lakeway in Texas saw fit to put her in charge of the memory care station after only three days of employment. She took on the challenge and handled it beautifully.

"I believe that my patience and calm demeanor have everything to do with my continued success," Ms. Brown said. "I was given a gift, and although it is being nurtured later in life, it is, nevertheless, being used the way it was intended."

Always working with a smile on her face, speaking in a pleasant voice, no matter what is happening around her, Ms. Brown believes these are important attributes for nurses to maintain. She believes in the notion of "never stop learning", especially in the field of medicine.

Earning her Medical Assistant degree at Kelsey-Jenny College in 1998, Ms. Brown enjoys being a member of Casting 360 where she hopes to secretly get discovered for a great comedy or dramatic role.
