Marty Brown began her career in nursing at the age of 16 in 1971. The high school she was attending, Joseph Pomeroy Widney High, was offering a program where she could earn credits while being a "candy striper". She experienced her first autopsy and became fascinated with the workings of the human body.

Ms. Brown has worked in various healthcare settings, such as volunteering at women's free clinic in Chula Vista, California and The Center for Gays & Lesbians in San Diego, California where she supports her daughter. Her experience extends to minor surgical procedures, giving injections, dressing wounds, diagnostics procedures, such as pulmonary function tests and electrocardiograms. She is an expert at calling in patients' prescriptions, scheduling surgical procedures, giving patient education, serving as a liaison for pharmaceutical representatives, transcription, sous-psychologist to patients and their families, preparing meals, doing laundry and housecleaning, bathing, transferring patients, incontinent care, caring for patients' pets, taking patients' to appointments, grocery shopping, and running occasional errands.
