  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2013 - Joseph G. Cotton, Teacher at Randolph High School, has been selected as a VIP Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Joseph G. Cotton's commitment to excellence in Education.

Joseph G. Cotton, who earned his BS in Mathematics and Secondary Education at Bridgewater College, followed by a Master's Degree in Education and Classroom Computers at Eastern Nazarene College, is a certified mathematics teacher for grades 7-12. He has been teaching since 1972.

Mr. Cotton began his career at Silver Lake School District and continued there as a mathematics teacher until retirement in 1993. He also coached football and softball for several years for the District, coached at Duxbury High School from 1986-89, and coached softball at Eastern Nazarene College from 1987-94. The year before his retirement he became the general manager/vice-president of Lannin Chrysler in Rockland, Massachusetts, responsible for daily operations of sales and service. But in 1994, he decided to go back to teaching, instructing senior level mathematics and calculus at Randolph High School, where he's been serving as head football coach since 2008, and is now also their head softball coach.

Responsible for teaching senior courses in SAT preparation and advanced placement calculus test preparation, as well as World Experience mathematics for non-college prep students, Mr. Cotton couldn't be happier.

"After eleven years in retail and the service of vehicles, I realized that my true passion was dealing with young people," Mr. Cotton admits. "Given the opportunity to return to the classroom and playing fields in 2004, I grabbed it."

Hoping to remain in the classroom and on the field for another three to five more years before retiring officially, Mr. Cotton is very happy with his decision to be back where he belongs. Currently, he is a member of numerous organizations, including the MassSports, Mathematical Association of America, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and most recently, Sherlock Holmes Society of London.
