  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2013 - Chartara White, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Everest University, is a certified radon tester through the National Environment Health Association who started out in her field in 2006.

Now the owner of her own radon business, Ms. White oversees all aspects of radon testing for clients, plus all of the customer service and office aspects and paperwork that goes along with owning her own business.

After contacting each client, it is Ms. White's responsibility to explain to each of them the protocol that they need to adhere to during the 48 hours of testing: maintaining closed-house conditions during the entire time of the short-term test; keeping all windows and doors closed with the exception of normal entry and exit; operating the home's heating and cooling systems at a temperature between 68-76 for testing that lasts less than a week; only operating AC units that recirculate interior air; and not disturbing the test device at any time.

Having had the opportunity to conduct testing both residentially and commercial, including apartment complexes, rehabilitation facilities, and schools, Ms. White said, "The client is the only one who receives the results of the testing. The testing is never placed in the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room of a home. The device is only to be placed in a livable area, such as a bedroom, living room, dining room, or basement area."

According to Ms. White, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer next to smoking and there have been over 21,000 deaths in the US in 2012 due to radon gas exposure. Her concerns of health risks associated with radon gas is what keeps her in the business, and she hopes to continue to educate citizens about them as much as possible. Ms. White also does bi-annual continued education to stay abreast of new and improved technology and ways of testing.
