Carolyn K. Hise began teaching in the fall of 2003. From 2003-2007 she taught mathematics at Uvalde High School before becoming their mathematics department chair. She then began teaching mathematics at Georgetown High School in the fall of 2007 where she remains today.

Having taught Algebra I, Geometry, Pre-AP Algebra II, Pre-AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC, Ms. Hise is the Mu Alpha Theta (mathematics national honor society) sponsor. She coaches the Number Sense, Calculator Applications, and Mathematics U.I.L. events. She also serves as the mathematics department chair where she is on a team of 16 talented mathematics teachers. "I had excellent teachers that served as role models to me throughout my education," Ms. Hise said. "I began tutoring my peers in high school and continued to do so in college. I discovered that I really love the challenge of making complex concepts seem simple, even when working with reluctant learners."

With plans to continue working as department chair and teacher of high school mathematics, Ms. Hise hopes to continue making learning fun in the classroom so that students can gain the confidence they need in problem solving skills and to be able to engage in new learning experiences, and make great strides in their goals as young adults.

Ms. Hise holds a BS in Mathematics Magna Cum Laude from Sul Ross State University. She is certified to teach grades 6-12 in both mathematics and English. She is an active member of the Association for Texas Professional Educators and has also spoken for other teachers from schools across Texas about developing strategies that help their students attain better understanding and retention of high school mathematics concepts at the Council for the Advancement of Mathematics annual summer conference.
