  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) September 03, 2014 - Consigli Construction Co., Inc. (Consigli) has been selected to receive two 2014 "Best Projects" awards for excellence in project management, innovation, safety, quality and teamwork from Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England. The projects selected for these prestigious industry awards include 225 Binney Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts for Best Office/Retail/Mixed-Use Development and the Wat Nawamintararachutis Thai Temple and Meditation Center (NMR) in Raynham, Massachusetts for the Cultural/Worship Merit Award.

Located in the heart of Cambridge's scientific research, academic and technology hub in Kendall Square, the six-story office building and tenant interiors at 225 Binney Street, developed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., is home to Biogen Idec's new headquarters. Built through a highly collaborative construction process, the new build-to-suit 410,000 square-foot office complex is LEED Gold-certified. Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, Inc. were architects for the building's core and shell, while interior architects, NELSON, designed the tenant fit-out. The project design accommodates 1,200 employees and includes adaptive reuse of two historic industrial buildings.

NMR, the largest Buddhist temple building outside of Thailand, commissioned to honor the Cambridge, Massachusetts-born King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX of Thailand, was built on a 50-acre site in rural Raynham. The 110,000 square-foot, four-story building complex is topped by a 185 foot-high steeple-like chedi of gold-coated brass. Consigli's in-house team of skilled carpenters, masons and laborers built much of the project's intricate, customized wood and stonework. Inside, opulent finishes and royal artifacts adorn the elegant museum/library dedicated to the king and his family. The project architect was ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, with Paul Chapple in the role of owner's project director.

An independent jury of design and construction industry leaders judged this year's ENR New England's Best Projects entries for top recognition in 12 specific categories.
