  • (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2011 - Connect925, the network for business women in Aberdeen, held a pub quiz on Tuesday night at The Office to raise funds for Monty's Maggie's Appeal. The total raised on behalf of the appeal was £350. This is the first of the years fundraising events on behalf of the appeal. President of Connect925, Holly McDonald, said "The pub quiz was great fun, we're grateful to the generosity of those who attended and to those who donated prizes on the night and we're looking forward to further fundraising events later in the year."

Monty's Maggie's Appeal is Connect925's nominated charity for 2011. Aberdeen is the only Scottish city without a Maggie's cancer centre. The centres provide much needed support to both sufferers and their families. Under one roof you can access help with information, benefits advice, and psychological support both individually and in groups, courses and stress reducing strategies. The centre's are there for anybody who feels the need for help, which includes those who love and look after someone with cancer, who often feel as frightened and vulnerable as those who actually have the disease. A total of £3 million needs to be raised to open the centre which will be built in the grounds of Foresterhill Hospital.

Connect925, formerly known as Aberdeen Business Women's Network, recently celebrated 25 years of operation in Aberdeen and marked the event with a relaunch under its new name. Holly says that they are delighted to be supporting Monty's Maggie's Appeal during 2011. "The new centre would be a great boost to cancer care in the city and with one in three of us being affected by cancer it will touch all of our lives in some form or another."

Connect925's next event is on 28th June and further details can be found on the website at www.connect925.co.uk.
