CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union Holds Community Shred-It Day on April 30th

  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2011 - CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union's annual Community Shred-It Day was held on April 30th, 2011 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Members and the community were encouraged to bring their sensitive personal documents such as monthly bill statements, paycheck stubs and junk mail to the Main Branch located at 4875 Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, VA. Safeguard Shredding was on-site to securely shred materials while participants waited, and a total of 8,500 pounds of documents were shredded during the event.

    In addition to shredding, attendees could register for 2 pair of tickets in the Diamond Club section to a Washington Nationals baseball game against the San Francisco Giants, plus a parking pass. At 12:30 pm, Klara Goyton's name was drawn from all the entries.

    The Academy of Finance (AOF) from Alexandria's T. C. Williams High School raffled off two $25 Target Gift Cards and sold cold drinks to raise funds for their organization. The AOF program promotes financial literacy among students by introducing and preparing them for the world of business. CommonWealth One helps these students achieve this goal by giving them the opportunity to work on this event, as well as other special projects. The AOF helped set up and also staffed the face painting table and wheel of fortune game.

    Branch Managers and other CommonWealth One staff were on hand to answer questions about loans, checking/savings accounts, e-Services, including Mobile Web Banking and Text Banking as well as other financial products and services. Free hot dogs and popcorn, courtesy of Enterprise Car Sales, were available, and the local City of Alexandria Fire Department donated their time to show youth how fire and EMS trucks operate.
