  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) August 12, 2010 - The Ad Council, a growing number of television networks, including, Scripps Networks' DIY and HGTV, National Geographic Channel and The Weather Channel, are participating in a "Go Green" promotion created by the Comcast Media Center's (CMC) Ad Distribution Network (ADN) to encourage the industry's adoption of electronic content distribution. The Go Green promotion features PSAs from the Ad Council and participating television networks that may be downloaded via the ADN web portal for local tagging and insertion via participating cable systems.

The Go Green campaign also includes a sweepstakes that will run from April 1until Earth Day 2009 (April 22), and award prizes, including solar-powered cell phone chargers and laptop cases. Cable system operators may enter the sweepstakes by visiting the "Go Green folder on ADN web site and completing an online form. In addition to being more efficient and cost-effective, electronic ad delivery represents a greener alternative to the traditional "dub and ship" method. Cable Show '09 attendees may learn more about the "Go Green" promotion at the CMC's exhibit (booth 1613).

"The 'Go Green' promotion is a great way to incorporate the Earth Day messages carried by local cable systems with an example of how we can support energy and natural resource conservation by using electronic content distribution technology to acquire that PSA content," stated Gary Traver, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Comcast Media Center. "We appreciate the support of the Ad Council, our television network partners and Comcast Spotlight in taking advantage of this timely opportunity to encourage wider adoption of the green alternative represented by the ADN web portal and similar initiatives."

Launched in 2007, ADN has the more than 2,000 affiliated users at cable systems and regional and corporate MSO offices across the country and is currently posting over 400 new campaign spots each month. Using customized web portals, ADN's cable system affiliates can search and preview the spots and other video assets, including materials that have been customized for particular affiliates. Affiliates can then download the high-resolution version directly from the ADN portal to their local editing suites or directly to their local ad servers. Local ad sales departments can download lower resolution files for use in sales presentations. ADN also features a reporting package that allows clients to track downloads of campaign materials.
