  • (1888PressRelease) April 04, 2011 - City marketing company, CODE has designed the innovative, high impact run of full colour hoardings which now dominate one of Plymouth's key roundabouts. The hoardings have been installed at the University of Plymouth's Marine Centre development site, situated next to North Cross roundabout. The design will stay in place for a 15 month period while the new Marine Centre is built.

The hoardings emphasise the university's role in world class marine research and three economic drivers in the city; innovation, sustainability and enterprise.

Key facts on subsea issues are combined with large visual messages. Fact: 'the giant squid has the largest eye in the animal kingdom. These facts are placed so visitors, specifically young people, can interact with and enjoy them.

The University has provided viewing ports, integrated as part of the hoardings, for both adults and young people to use, with 'fact' panels alongside. These include details on the materials used in the construction of the building and what will happen in the centre, such as the testing of super tankers in the special sea simulation tank.

CODE MD, Andy Staples commented: "This is literally one of the biggest projects we have worked on, it is really great to see CODE designs on such a large scale, it has an architectural quality about it and it enhances the North Cross area while the new Marine Research centre is being constructed."
