Joining the Philadelphia certified public accountants in presenting "Navigating Governmental and Tax Regulations" and "Mastering the Business of Education," was Peter Costa, Director of School Business Services at Foundations, Inc.
Beyond School Hours is a national education conference bringing together the country's top education practitioners and thought leaders. Attendees explored best practices and cutting-edge issues while connecting with peers and experts during workshops and site visits. The annual conference was presented by Citrin Cooperman client, Foundations, Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to improving educational experiences for U.S. children and youth.
During the "Navigating Governmental and Tax Regulations" workshop, Ryan, Bull and Costa examined the financial structures of educational institutions, focusing on the roles and responsibilities of school board members and key officials. They also addressed Tax Form 990 and steps to make financial statement audits more efficient. In "Mastering the Business of Education," the professionals presented the basics of school financial reporting responsibilities, long-range budget planning, business policies and procedures, and financial statements.
A partner in Citrin Cooperman's Philadelphia office, Ryan has more than 20 years of accounting experience. He provides audit, tax and business consulting services to clients in a variety of industries, including the not-for-profit sector. An expert in the field of nonprofits, Ryan provides audit services to numerous charter schools in the Philadelphia area. He is on the national and local board of directors of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, where he was the past National Secretary and Treasurer, and served as Vice-Chair of the organization's National Audit Committee. He is also a regular contributor for the South Eastern Economic Development Company of Pennsylvania blog. Ryan is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs (PICPA) and currently sits on Citrin Cooperman's Executive Committee. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Temple University.
Bull is a director in Citrin Cooperman's Philadelphia office with more than 10 years of experience. He concentrates his practice on the audit, tax and consulting needs of a variety of clientele, including private schools, not-for-profit organizations and the real estate industry. Bull also advises clients regarding a range of internal controls issues. He is a Temple University graduate and a member of PICPA and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
