  • (1888PressRelease) August 18, 2017 - The China National Standardization Technical Committees for Apparel has updated its national standard for shirts and blouses. GB/T 2660-2008 has been replaced by GB/T 2660-2017, which will be implemented on December 1, 2017.

The updates to GB/T 2660 reflect a number of factors, including changes to the raw materials used and the greater and more varied range of products being produced. New materials and technologies have meant that, in the years since GB/T 2660-2008 was implemented, different quality problems have developed and these are reflected in the 2017 version of the standard. In addition, the new standard no longer applies to infant garments and shirts or blouses with filling materials.

The 2017 edition of the standard contain several technical changes, including, among others, revisions to:
    • Scope
    • Normative references
    • Instructions for use
    • List of auxiliary materials
    • Appearance defect information
    • Sewing rules
    • Requirements for formaldehyde content, pH value, banned azo colorants and odor
    • Requirements for seam slippage, tear force, fiber content, colorfastness, skewness of warp yarn and weft yarn, and dimensional change following washing or dry cleaning
    • Various measuring, assessment and test methods

The update has also deleted some provisions, such as those concerned with filling materials, information about stitching fabrics and the annexes concerned with the test methods for needle detection and seam slippage.

For a more detailed assessment of the changes, see Safeguard 122/17.

Stakeholders are advised to now review GB/T 2660-2017 – Shirts and Blouses, to make sure their products remain compliant.
