CBCF Announces Return of Alumni Series

The CBCF's Alumni Series returns with their annual legislative conference. End Quote

Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) September 08, 2011 - What does civic activism look like today? Who is offering innovative policy suggestions to the specific needs of black students? And have we forgotten our sister - Haiti? These will be the topics of discussion as the popular Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's (CBCF) Alumni Series returns to the 41st Annual Legislative Conference from September 21-24, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Conference registration is open now.

The Alumni Series highlights critical issues facing African Americans as identified by current CBCF Congressional and Louis Stokes Fellows and CBCF alumni. The forum topics are a product of the Fellows' research and work on Capitol Hill. The Fellows Program offers public policy training to postgraduate, young professionals by providing them with an opportunity to work on Capitol Hill. After the fellowship, many CBCF Fellows go on to secure full-time positions on Capitol Hill and other public service careers.

Three sessions will be featured at this year's ALC including:

· iEducate: Making 21st Century Classrooms Work for Students of Color
· Ready. Set. Engage!
· Haiti: She's My sister

In addition, the Alumni will gather for a reception which will showcase the strong group of individuals that have benefitted from the Foundation's leadership education and scholarship programs.

CBCF is expecting thousands to reflect on the conference theme: iLead|iServe. ALC attendees will have many opportunities to share their thoughts and experiences on leading and serving - how and why they do it, the value of each, and the impact of each within their lives and their communities. The conference will use social media, a town hall meeting, brain trusts and personal interaction to further encourage discussions and follow-up conversations among attendees.
