Carnival Celebration Marks Conclusion To 'The Festival Of Canacona'

  • (1888PressRelease) January 04, 2011 - New Delhi - Music, Gaiety & Celebrations was in the air at the Carnival ANO NOVO 2011, the Carnival which marks the conclusion of `The Festival of Canacona'. The festival was organized by the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group; for the residents of Canacona region in celebrating the arrival of a new beginning.

    Over 350 costumed folk dancer participated in the Carnival which also included some very attractive and colourful tableaux as part of the parade. Mr. Manohar Azgaonkar, Hon'ble Minister of Sports, Government of Goa was the chief guest. He was joined by local MLA from Canacona, Mr. Vijay Pai Khot

    The Carnival ANO NOVO 2011; was truly a spectacular sight. This is the second year in succession that this Carnival is being held. Over 1000 people from in and surrounding areas of Canacona had come to witness the Carnival. The Parade began at Intercontinental The Lalit Goa Resort and culminated at The Palolem Beach. Special performances showcasing the local flavour was presented by the dancers - the parade moved to Chaudi and onto Chaar Rasta and finished with an exhilarating spectacle of dance at the popular Palolem beach.

    The `Festival of Canacona' stands as a firm commitment to Developing Destinations by The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group and spells out its vision, which encompasses a holistic development of tourism and hospitality with a social responsibility for the region it makes a presence in.     As part of the `Festival of Canacona' -- The Second Lalit Suri Beach Exhibition Polo Match was hosted on December 31st 2010. Mr. Digamber Kamat, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Goa; was the chief Guest at the Exhibition Polo Match.

    The two teams that participated in the Exhibition Polo Match were The Lalit Red and The Lalit White team. The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group has not only transported specially trained Polo horses from Delhi - but also ensured the participation of world class Polo players like Jai Shergill; Ransher Singh; Dr Pawandeep S Kohli (Tony Kohli); Navin Khanna; Maj Gen Balbir Singh; Preetindra Singh and also the famous Polo commentator Pradeep (Bogey) Rao; were participating in the exhibition Polo match. The match ended in a tie-breaker - So Mr. Kamat gave away the winning trophy to the Capitans of both team.

    The `Festival of Canacona' also witnessed The Lalit Suri Foot Ball Cup on December 29th & Exhibition Match between Churchill Brothers and The Lalit Team on December 30th at Devbaga Ground, Canacona - in association with The Lions Club of Canacona..

    To stimulate the youth and enhance the game of football - The Group organized - The Lalit Suri Football Cup 2010 in association with The Lions Club of Canacona at Devbaga Ground, Canacona. This year the event got bigger and better with teams from all over Goa registering themselves for this special tournament. The local teams had been playing amongst each other for the past few weeks, & December 29th saw an exciting final match between Navelim 11 and Cuncolim 11. Cuncolim 11 was declared the winner of the match yesterday. The winning team and the runner up received a trophy each and cash prize of Rs. 50000 and Rs. 30000 each. Besides this each participant was awarded a medal and cash prize.

    Some of the best players from the region of Canacona were picked up to form The Lalit team which fought a gripping battle with Churchill Bros for the winners' title. Churchill Bros won the title, beating The Lalit by 2-0. The winners and the runner up took home a specially designed 'The Lalit Suri Football Cup trophy' and cash prize for each player. The entire Devbaga Ground came alive with over 1000 people witnessing this enthralling match. Mr. Ratnakar Dhuri, Chairperson of The Canacona Municipal Council was the chief guest for the evening.
