Candela Controls' Manager of Marketing and Communications, Eric Zink, received the award Saturday, October 23rd, during the annual Excellence in Construction Awards banquet, held at the exquisite Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes, in Orlando, Florida.

Steve Helliker, President of Candela Controls, congratulates his team for its exceptional work on the Calvary Chapel project; "This project is an outstanding example of the innovation, creativeness, and commitment to superior craftsmanship that Candela strives for on every project, but also, the attributes that embody merit shop construction and everything ABC supports." It is an incredible honor to have this project recognized with the association's top construction excellence award", Steve added.

The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry's leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects and safety programs. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted by contractors from all across the central Florida region, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges to overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

"This project consisted of a complete stage/production lighting and lighting control system for the sanctuary stage, but it wasn't until we found out about the issues regarding the lighting code for the sanctuary, that this project potentially became an Eagle Award winner" according to Eric. "At that same time, we happened to be in product development with an LED fixture manufacturer, Affineon Lighting of Coral Gables, on a 100% controllable and dimmable LED houselight. Today, nearly one year later, the installation not only still meets their expectations, it exceeds them!"

A panel of industry experts served as the competition's judges. This year's panel included representatives from some of the regions' top architects, engineers, and contractors, as well as a few representatives from higher education.
